Description:

One of very special events of this year’s Philadelphia Live Arts Festival, running between September 3rd and the 18th, is ETTY; a one-act portrayal of the profoundly thought provoking observations of Etty Hillesum, a 28 year old student in Amsterdam who, along with more than 100,000 Jews living in the Netherlands, were deported between 1942 and 1944, to Auschwitz and Sobibor where their lives were taken. Written and exquisitely performed by Susan Stein, who adapted her play from the diaries and letters left behind by Etty, the fifty-minute performance took place in a small room, that is located in the Neighborhood House on American Avenue directly behind Philadelphia’s historical Christ Church, seating only about 20 audience members.
