Description:

Poor Richard's Chamber Music Society returns to Christ Church with a First Friday concert featuring Crumb's Sonata for Solo Cello; Beethoven's String Quartet in F major, Op. 59, No. 1; and Brahms' Sextet in G major, Op. 36.

Poor Richard’s Chamber Music Society presents free and informal chamber music concerts with musicians from such venerable ensembles as Tokyo String Quartet and Vermeer Quartet. Founded in 2007, it is the brainchild of Artistic Director David Yang (Director of Chamber Music at the University of Pennsylvania). Each concert features a somewhat rarely heard string quartet and a composition for a larger ensemble; repertoire ranges from Schnittke, Korngold, and Bartok to Beethoven, Brahms, and Dvorak.

Presented at Christ Church for over a decade, this concert series pays homage to early church member Ben Franklin, a chamber musician himself—and the reputed composer of a single, homespun string quartet movement.
