Description:
This signature event for Christ Church pays tribute to the seven signers of the Declaration of Independence associated with Christ Church, including Benjamin Franklin, Benjamin Rush and Robert Morris. Signers’ Day activities take place on Tuesday, July 3 only. The day includes guided tours throughout the day at the burial ground, History Hunts and other activities for children, chess games with our guides at the Church Burial Ground, where five signers including Benjamin Franklin are buried. At Christ Church, the Book of Common Prayer in which Jacob Duché, a chaplain to the Continental Congress committed an act of treason when he crossed out the references to the king will be on display. Guided tours throughout the day, add your John Hancock to the Declaration, and Once Upon a Nation storytellers will be available at the church.
Tuesday, July 3, 2012 from 9 am- 5pm at Christ Church, 2nd and Market Streets, and from 10 am-5 pm at Christ Church Burial Ground, 5th and Arch Streets.
Here is a breakdown of the day’s events:
- Signer’s History Hunt:10am to 3:30pm (hunt begins at the Burial Ground, ends at the church)
- Sign the Declaration of Independence: 11am to 4pm
- Welcoming Ceremony: 12 noon
- Book of Common Prayer on display throughout the day
- Revolutionary Americans Guided Tour: 15 minute tour given throughout the day
- The Patriot Church Tour: 20 minute tour given throughout the day.
- Storytellers from Once Upon a Nation given throughout the day.
- History Hunt Redemption: prizes given when hunts are completed and turned in (at the church).
