The 6th Philadelphia International Tango Festival

Event Times:

May 19th – May 22nd 2016

Description:

The Philadelphia International Tango Festival, hosted by the Philadelphia Argentine Tango School, returns to Neighborhood House for its sixth year, drawing over five hundred dancers from across the U.S. and beyond.

The Festival offers something for tango dancers (and aspiring tango dancers) at every level, from beginners to professionals. A four-day Absolute Beginner Track allows new dancers to immerse themselves in tango, while fifteen workshops for intermediate and advanced dancers address topics ranging from musicality to navigation to proper technique for complicated movements. A 12-hour intensive seminar with Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne, two of the most well-regarded Argentine tango teachers and performers in the world, allows truly in depth study for those dedicated to taking their dancing to the next level. Additional workshops draw upon the talents of Alejandro Larenas and Marisol Morales (Buenos Aires), Marcelo Gutierrez and Ines Muzzopappa (Buenos Aires), and Andres Amarilla (Buenos Aires) and Meredith Klein (Philadelphia).

Afternoon practicos and nightly milangas—each milanga featuring inspiring performances by festival instructors and special guests—add up to 26 total hours of social dancing. Music will be provided by seven of the country's most in-demand tango DJs, including Jake Spatz and Marc Hussner.
